The tea infusion made from the original Thai Matum fruit, also called Bael fruit or Matoom, is pure relaxation and is often served before or after Thai massages. Very fruity and sweetish in taste but not sour. This makes it very gentle on the stomach and pleasant to drink, even without added sugar. Matum tea is easy to prepare and can be drunk daily. To prepare 2 or 3 litres of fruit tea, simply boil two to three litres of water together with 3-4 slices of the dried matum fruit. After only 15 minutes of boiling, the matum tea is ready to drink.
We grow our own Thai Matum tea in central Thailand and ensure gentle processing and drying of the harvested fruit. The Matum tree with the botanical name Aegle Marmelos Correa ex. Roxb. is a tall tree with round, orange-like matum fruits hanging on long stems. After ripening, these are harvested and immediately cut into slices about 1 centimetre thick, which are then laid out to dry gently. The drying is done simply and without additives. If the fruits are not placed in direct sunlight, the red-orange colour is well preserved. The tea also has a dark red colouring, which also looks very appetising. This makes you want this matum tea more.
