These original Thai mats are filled with a special and water-repellent natural material. This not only prevents the absorption of perspiration and other moisture from the room, but also does not emit unpleasant odours, as neither softeners nor other chemicals are needed in the production process. Kapok fibre is the lightest of its kind after poplar fibre. The fibre gets its water-repellent effect from a thin and natural grease coating of the individual fibres.
Kapok fibre is very light and even floats on water. That is why it was used a long time ago to fill life jackets. The kapok tree, which originates from Malaysia, is also very widespread in Thailand. Its fibres are painstakingly collected by many industrious hands, cleaned and prepared for further processing. This is because the blossoms with the kapok fibres are often located at lofty heights and are difficult to reach.
All Thai mats, yoga mats, cushions, triangular cushions and reclining cushions that can be ordered here are filled to the brim with this valuable and natural material. No chemical additives are used at all. The outer cover of all cushions and mats consists of 100% pure cotton. During the production of the mats and cushions, the cover is first cut out of a piece of fabric and sewn together. This gives the cushion or mat its later shape. The cover is then filled by hand with the kapok fibres. Care is taken to ensure that the filling is even and sufficient.
By using differently coloured and designed cotton fabrics, mats and cushions are obtained in different colours and patterns. By simply rolling them up, Thai mats and Thai sofas can be easily transported and stored in a space-saving way. Matching cushions, pillows, bolsters and seat cushions are also available. As these are made from the same 100% natural cotton cover fabric, they are perfectly colour-coordinated.
